St.Ambroeus feat. Chiara Beretta
Saint Ambroeus is the holy patron of Milan. A football team uses his name to carry on a crucial fight. St.Ambroeus Football Club is composed mostly by refugees and asylum seekers. Various football teams, all born in the shelter centers of the city, joined forces to compete in the official Italian league. During the season 2018/19, St.Ambroeus disputed its first championship spreading its anti-racist values in the peripherical stadiums of Milan. St.Ambroeus’ players were supported by local activists who helped them to cope with the gruelling Italian bureaucracy. A daring hooligan group followed the team along the whole championship to support players and defend them from potential racist attacks. The saint patron of the city switched from being a conservative symbol of Milan’s catholic identity to representing the resistance against the fascist ‘black wave’ that hitted Italy.
